ABOUT US

The mission of the Maine Prescribed Fire Council is to serve as a venue for fire and land management practitioners, state and federal agencies, academic institutions, tribes, coalitions, non‐governmental organizations, and interested individuals, to collaboratively promote the responsible use of prescribed fire as a land and natural resource management tool for conservation and restoration in Maine.

Collaboration
working together

Prescribed fire in Maine happens through partnerships. Not a single burn happens without collaboration and advance planning. We work together to make good fire happen.

Training

Safety of life and property are top priorities. We as a Council promote safe practices in prescribed fire through training that prepares us to light fires, and to put them out.

Good fire
restoration

Maine is home to rare natural communities with plants and animals adapted to fire. We restore the component of fire to the ecosystem through controlled burns.

Communication

We learn on every burn. By sharing lessons, we build our collective knowledge of how to put good fire on the ground. We aim to promote the public understanding of the benefits of prescribed fire.
