A basic overview from our past TREX objectives:
The objective of the two-week TREX program in Maine is to facilitate peer-to-peer, experiential learning for prescribed fire professionals and others interested in advancing innovative tools to restore fire-adapted ecosystems.
Participants will engage in hands-on training in the ecology of fire-adapted ecosystems, communications and community outreach, prescribed fire monitoring, operational assignments, prescribed fire use, and collaboration among a diverse array of participating individuals and organizations.
Target Audience: This event is open to individuals with a current Red Card or other proof of meeting minimum NWCG wildland firefighting standards.
Training Opportunities: In addition to hands-on, live-fire experience and training, there are opportunities for position task book training assignments, including RXB2, FIRB, ENGB, FFT1, and FEMO.
Requirements: All participants must have a current Red Card or have completed NWCG courses S-130, S-190, and L-180, FEMA courses ICS-100 and IS-700, and annual pack test, and be able to provide proof of completion. Participants should come will all personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes fireline-approved boots, a new generation fire shelter, a hard hat, Nomex clothing, leather gloves, and eye protection. Some limited PPE will be available on a need basis. We will be following any state and local COVID-19 safety protocols.
These TREX are supported by Promoting Ecosystem Resilience and Fire Adapted Communities Together, a cooperative agreement between TNC, USDA Forest Service, and agencies of the Department of the Interior. An equal opportunity provider
